Carolyn Mumby

I work with individuals and groups to create and develop their vision, recognise what is blocking their development and to become more confident and equipped to achieve their ambitions and aspirations in the workplace and in life.

Over 30 yeaCM IMG_6850rs’ in developing people, leading teams, consulting, training and coaching across the voluntary, public and corporate sectors.

This includes:

  • Executive coaching with a wide range of individuals, specialising in working with leaders in the creative industries, such as Media, Advertising, PR, Marketing and with entrepreneurs starting and growing their own business.
  • Extensive experience of using ‘Personal Consultancy’ a model that enables the integration counselling and coaching. Writing about and further developing this framework, specifically its application with young people. Training counselling practitioners and therapists in its use.
  • Licenced MBTI Step 1 assessor with individuals and teams in the corporate sector
  • Extensive experience of providing clinical and coaching supervision to a range of practitioners.
  • Training design and delivery for a range of voluntary public and corporate sector organisations.
  • 26 years’ experience of work with individuals and groups including detached youth and community work, team leader in a therapeutic community for recovering drug users, developing and managing a counselling service for young people in Southwark and working as a quality manager and national consultant for Youth Access.

I connect with people with ease and genuine interest; keen to support them to identify strengths and areas of impasse, free their thinking, develop their potential and make real and sustainable changes in their work and life. Individuals and teams appreciate that we can work at depth when needed, from a grounded, practical and good-humoured place.

I live in London with my partner from New Zealand and our two children. I enjoy the thrills of sportive road cycling and the calmer pursuit of botanical illustration and have a regular yoga practice, which helps me hold it all together in the middle.

What people say

Katherine Bassey – Head of Human Resource Development, UNISON

“I have greatly benefited from Carolyn’s coaching. Drawing from her rich and diverse professional background, she offers safe space in which to unpick seemingly intractable situations. Challenging me to re-frame my thinking and to value my own personal style, she has sharpened my awareness of self-imposed barriers, and strengthened my capacity to address them with personally authentic strategies. I cannot recommend her to you more highly”.

Director (investment banking).

“Coaching with Carolyn helped me identify the underlying factors in my personality that influence how I behave and interact with people in certain circumstances.  As a result of the coaching my personal resilience has strengthened, and I have techniques for managing stress, which is leading to positive outcomes in my professional life.  I found the whole experience extremely useful and learnt a lot about myself that I can call upon to improve my professional performance.“

E.E.Mason – Writer

“Since I started working with Carolyn, I’ve seen real, positive changes – her knowledge, insights, encouragement and ideas have been immensely helpful. In particular, she’s helped me to get unblocked in my thinking, and find the motivation to identify and take the concrete steps necessary to make my life a lot more authentic and rewarding.”

Niki Cooper, Programme Leader for Professional Qualifications, Place2B

“Carolyn has delivered a consistently high quality residential weekend training for Place2be postgraduate students on the subject of Cultural Competence for the past four years. Students welcome her knowledge, wisdom and responsiveness and greatly value the thoroughness and rigour of her materials and their learning from the weekend is immediately evident. As a colleague I have always found Carolyn to be dynamic, thoughtful, authentic, warm and challenging in equal measure. She is a great teacher and an inspirational role model.”
